Dr Suresh Kishanrao holds MBBS (1967), MD (Preventive & Social Medicine (1984) from Karnataka University, Dharwad, and DIH (PG Diploma in Industrial/Occupational Health) (1978) from Bengaluru University. Currently, he is a practicing Family Physician, Freelance Public Health Consultant, and Professor of Practice (MGRDPRU). He has been awarded honorary Fellowships of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Indian Public Health Association, and Indian School of Malaria & other communicable diseases. He has vast experience of over 58 years in public health practice at all levels of the Indian Health System, for which he has been offered the position of Professor of Practice since 2018, 20 of them in the first 6 months of 2026. He has over 100 articles in various international publications & more than 150 citations. He is a peer reviewer of 8 publications.
His key achievements include involvement in smallpox eradication, Guinea worm eradication, and polio eradication in India.
His Research interests include a) Social Pediatrics and surveillance of common childhood illnesses, b) Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI) both at the community & Facility Levels, c) Newborn care-home-based and facility-based care, d) Healthy Ageing of Senior Citizens.
